1947: Rose Repetto, mother of prima ballerina Roland Petit, set up a tiny ballet shoes workshop at 22 rue de la Paix, nearby the Paris Opera. She began to make ballet shoes using a new technique, cousu-retourné, which gave the shoes unequalled suppleness and comfort. The Opera dancers soon flocked to Madame Repetto's workshop. The greatest ballerinas of the day adopted her unique ballet shoes and Repetto became the reference in the world of dance.
In 1956, Brigitte Bardot, then a dancer at the Paris Conservatoire, pushed the door of Madame Repetto's shoe workshop and asked her to design a pair of city shoes for her that would be as light and comfortable as her ballet shoes. The legendary Cendrillon ballerina was born, using the unique technique of Cousu-retourné.
In the 1970s, another iconic shoe was born: the mythical Zizi, inspired by the jazz shoe and created as a tribute to Zizi Jeanmaire, the iconic dancer and socialite of the time. The Zizi is made from a soft and thin leather that follows the movements of the foot to perfection. Serge Gainsbourg was seduced by the comfort of this model and made it an inseparable part of his look, propelling it to the rank of mythical shoe through the generations.

This Repetto legend, born of the Bardot and Gainsbourg era, has never ceased to inspire style and a philosophy of life. Simple, graceful, elegant as much as casual, a touch irreverent, the Repetto charm has continued to be embraced by generations of socialites and artists in search of a timeless and singular style. From Mick Jagger to Rose (Black Pink), from Bob Sinclar to Stromae, from Kate Moss to Kaia Gerber, Jennifer Lopez and Hailey Bieber, the Repetto community is rich in personalities who embody its essence: freedom, movement, elegance.
Today, Repetto ballerinas still embody elegance and grace, the absolute simplicity of a timeless style that creates a unique allure, emblematic of French chic. With ribbons or baby doll straps, with or without logos, square-shaped, with a small heel, or even a men's ballerina, the House of Ballerinas specialist now offers a range of models to ensure that everyone can find a ballerina to suit their feet!

Reigning supreme over the imaginary world of classical dance, shaped by its exacting standards and quest for excellence, Repetto has become a household name in the world of French luxury. At Repetto, this luxury was born in Dordogne, in workshops that pride on exceptional craftsmanship and perpetuate the perfect gesture. The craftsmen working for Repetto have undergone a long training period in which they have been passed on a unique know-how, that of the original gesture: “cousu-retourné” meaning “stitched and returned”. This unique practice has been passed down from one generation of craftsmen to the next, with pride in their craft, a love of beautiful materials and attention to detail.
